Home Remedies

What was a home remedy used for anything when you were at home and why did/do they work?

  1. I remember my mother made a baking soda and water paste to put on insect bites when I was young. I don't remember that it really worked all that well. The itching was pretty miserable and there wasn't such a thing as air conditioning back then so between the itching and being hot it wasn't much fun. Now, there are things like 'After Bite' that you can apply and think it works much better!

  4. I use the neti pot! Looks like a little teapot. It helps my allergies and sinus pain.

I really need to remember to use it more and figure out a way so I can use it on both nostrils faster.

  6. My mom always but cider vingar on things. We'd soak a towel in cider vinegar and put it on sunburns. We'd soak a sprained ankle in a bucket of cider vinegar. It does help for sunburns, but one time she had be soak my foot in it. I told her that I didn't think that would work and that I should probably get it checked. Turns out it doesn't help with hairline fractures. :)

My mother-in-law says to put vicks vapor rub on your toes, and it is supposed to clear up a bad head cold. Something about there being a "pressure point" in your toes for your sinuses?
